World Day of Social Justice

February 20th is commemorated globally each year as the “World Day of Social Justice”. This day serves as a platform for raising awareness of social justice issues such as poverty worldwide. In Afghanistan, this year the World Day of Social Justice is commemorated at a time when poverty has deepened and millions of Afghans need humanitarian assistance. The Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) report, published in January 2023 by the UN-OCHA estimates that 28.3 million people (two thirds of the population) need humanitarian assistance to survive. The number of people in need (PiN) of humanitarian assistance in 2023 has increased from 24.4 million in 2022 (a 16% increase) and 18.4 million in 2021 (a 54 % increase).
