To invest in people, prioritize education

Each year, January 24th is celebrated globally as the “International Day of Education” with a specific theme that aims to promote the human right to education. The main theme for this year focuses on investing in people and prioritizing education. The United Nations has dedicated this year’s international education day to Afghan women and girls. Girls in Afghanistan over the age of 12 have been barred from secondary education since August 2021 and from tertiary education since December 2022. According to the UN, 80% (2.5 million) of school-aged girls and young women in Afghanistan are out of school.
