The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship aims to foster international exchange by providing fully funded scholarships to foreign students and researchers from over 180 countries, including Afghanistan. The program is open for the 2025-2026 academic year and covers various fields of study.

Key Details:

  1. Scholarship Types:
    1. Research Scholarship: For students with a master's degree pursuing research in Switzerland (includes Research Fellowship, Ph.D., and PostDoc).
    2. Art Scholarship: For young artists with a bachelor's degree wishing to pursue a master's degree in Switzerland (available for limited countries).
  2. Duration:
    1. Ph.D.: 12 months, extendable up to 36 months
    2. Research and Postdoctoral Studies: 12 months (non-extendable)
  3. Benefits:
    1. Monthly stipend: CHF 1,920 (Research, Ph.D., Master of Arts), CHF 3,500 (Postdoctoral)
    2. Health insurance
    3. One-way flight ticket to home country
    4. CHF 300 housing allowance
    5. Half-fare public transportation card for one year

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. General:
    1. Find a host professor in Switzerland for support and supervision
    2. Provide a research proposal and motivation letter
    3. Hold a master’s degree or equivalent by July 31, 2025
    4. Born after December 31, 1988
    5. Not been in Switzerland for more than 1 year
    6. Not previously received a Swiss scholarship
    7. For Postdoc: Degree obtained between December 31, 2021, and July 31, 2025
    8. For Art: Bachelor’s degree obtained before July 31, 2024, and conditional acceptance at a Swiss arts or music school
  2. Documents Required:
    1. Signed application form with photo
    2. CV with publications, awards, etc.
    3. Motivation letter (max 2 pages)
    4. Research proposal (max 5 pages, signed)
    5. Letter from a Swiss academic host professor
    6. Two confidential letters of recommendation
    7. Certificates and grade sheets (with translations if needed)
    8. Signed medical certificate
    9. Passport copies
