The Asia Foundation Development Fellows program is designed for highly talented Asian individuals under the age of 40 to enhance their leadership skills, knowledge in Asian development, professional networks, and international exposure.
Key Details:
- Spring 2025: Leadership Training Program and Study Tour.
Location: Nepal
Dates: February 17 to 28, 2025
Features: Interactive leadership training modules, site visits, executive coaching, and sessions on strategic thinking, problem-solving, and innovative leadership approaches.

Fall 2025: Leadership Dialogue and Exchange Program
Location: United States
Dates: October 6 to 17, 2025
Features: Programs, policy discussions, and leadership development opportunities in the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington, DC.

Professional Development Award:
Amount: Up to $5,000
Purpose: To design individualized plans for leadership skill enhancement, including specialized training programs, language study, travel to key forums, or other enrichment activities.

Executive Coaching & Mentoring:
Includes one-on-one executive coaching sessions tailored to each Fellow's background and professional interests.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to climate action.
- Inspirational leaders in their professional fields and community.
- Under 40 years of age by January 1, 2025.
- Conversant in English.
- Able to participate in all program components on specified dates.
- Able to secure a visa for travel to the United States.
- Resident nationals or citizens of specific countries and regions including Afghanistan.
Selection Process:
The program is highly competitive. Initial evaluations are conducted by Asia Foundation staff, followed by a distinguished committee for final selections. Selection is based on merit, without regard to gender, race, religion, or other personal characteristics.
Selection Timeline:
- June 10 to July 29, 2024: Applications open
- August to November 2024: Internal review
- November to December 2024: Final selections and announcements
