Details
This award covers all tuition costs for a Distance Learning MSc TESOL programme (including MSc TESOL with a specialism) or the Distance Learning MSc International Education at the University of St Andrews.
To be eligible to apply you must:
- Hold an offer to study on an MSc TESOL programme (Distance Learning, September start) or the MSc International Education programme (Distance Learning, September start) at the University of St Andrews by the time the scholarship submission deadline date.
- Be an Afghan national who is resident in Afghanistan, or who has been resident in Afghanistan within the past three years.
The International Education Institute reserves the right not to make an award if no appropriate submissions are made. A decision on the award will be made by committee.
No cash alternative is offered, and the award is not transferrable to any other programme of study. If a student does not enrol on a distance-learning MSc TESOL or International Education programme then the award will be withdrawn.

Duration of award:This award is paid for the duration of the Distance Learning programme.
At what stage of my course application can I apply for this scholarship?
Please apply for the award after you have submitted your application for a place at St Andrews. You do not need to wait until you have received an offer of a place before applying for the award. However, you must hold an offer to study on an MSc TESOL or International Education programme at the University of St Andrews by the time of the scholarship submission deadline date.

To be eligible to apply for the MSc TESOL Afghanistan Scholarship, you must:
- Hold an offer to study on an MSc TESOL programme (Distance Learning, September start) or the MSc International Education programme (Distance Learning, September start) at the University of St Andrews by the time the scholarship submission deadline date.
- Be an Afghan national who is resident in Afghanistan, or who has been resident in Afghanistan within the past three years.
As part of the application you will be asked to provide a 1000 word proposal explaining how you plan to use learning from the programme to benefit the people of Afghanistan.
How to apply
This scholarship is available through the St Andrews Distance-learning Afghanistan Scholarship for MSc TESOL/MSc International Education application form. You can access this application through the Scholarships and funding catalogue in the Scholarships and Funding section of
My application. After you have applied to a new course beginning in the academic year 2023-24, you will be provided with login details for the My application portal. You must allow at least two working days for processing and issue of your log in details before you can apply for this scholarship.

- The offer of a scholarship is provisional upon the offer holder accepting and enrolling on a distance-learning MSc TESOL or MSc International Education programme by the enrolment deadline.
- Students who interrupt, suspend or cease their studies are not eligible to receive the scholarship and will have the scholarship offer withdrawn.
- Applications will only be considered if the applicant holds an offer for a distance-learning MSc TESOL or MSc International Education programme at University of St Andrews.
- The selection panel will consist of a group of key academic and professional services staff from University of St Andrews. All decisions of the panel are final.
