The Displaced Student Initiative (DSI) provides displaced students with an opportunity to pursue undergraduate bachelor’s university education, and post-degree employment, in the UK.
The DSI scholarship covers the cost of three years of tuition fees and accommodation at a UK university, study and learning materials, employability and employment support, and the option to apply for an additional two year graduate work visa after the successful completion of undergraduate bachelor’s studies.
The DSI scholarship currently prioritises female students whose education has been disrupted due to displacement.
Invitation: we welcome Afghan refugees - who are displaced in Pakistan - to apply for a DSI scholarship to study at a UK university for September 2023.

The scholarship
The DSI scholarship includes;
- Three years of university tuition fees for an undergraduate bachelor’s degree at a partner UK university.
- Three years of accommodation.
- Three years of associated living expenses (food, and internal travel) via a monthly stipend.
- Costs associated with the international Student visa, and immigration health surcharge.
- Travel costs to the UK.
- Study materials
- Employment and employability support.
- Support to apply for an optional two year Graduate visa after the completion of the undergraduate degree.

DSI scholarship eligibility
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria in order to apply for the DSI
scholarship. Please note, the DSI prioritises female applicants. Applicants must;
- be an Afghan citizen who has been forcibly displaced and is currently residing in Pakistan.
- be between the ages of 18-30 (on the 1 September 2023).
- have no immediate dependents (spouse, sibling, parents, or children) needing to be accommodated in the UK by the DSI.
- have a valid international travel document currently in their possession (such as a passport.)
- have completed higher secondary education in Afghanistan or Pakistan with academic excellence, or have completed Year 1 or Year 2 of a bachelor’s degree at a university in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Applicants who have already obtained an undergraduate bachelor’s degree from a university in Afghanistan or Pakistan are also eligible to apply.
- meet the English language requirements to gain admission to a degree programme at our partner universities, and/or to obtain a student visa in the UK (usually B2 level).
- be without the financial ability to study overseas independently.
The final award of the scholarship will be dependent on the UK Visas and Immigration department (UKVI) granting the successful applicant a student visa to enter the UK.

Please note that you will not be able to save your application form and return to it. You will need to complete it in one sitting. Therefore, please allow at least one hour to complete the form. You can find a PDF version of the application form
here so that you can prepare your answers beforehand.
The application deadline is Sunday 9th April 2023, at 12 p.m. Pakistan Standard Time (PKT). Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Once you have submitted your application, you will see a successful submission message. You will also receive a copy of your application by email. This will act as a confirmation of your application submission.
