The Judicial Fellowship Programme of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) offers recent law graduates the opportunity to gain experience by working with the Court to enhance their understanding and practical skills in public international law and Court procedures.
Eligibility:
- Candidates should be 31 years old or younger at the start of the fellowship, with possible exceptions.
- Demonstrated excellence in legal studies and interest in public international law.
- Excellent command of English or French, with the other as a desirable asset.
Application Process:
- Universities nominate candidates; individual applications are not accepted.
- Nomination includes an official letter, ICJ personal history form, reference letters, academic records, writing sample, and candidate profile summary table.
Deadline:
Applications for the 2024-2025 programme are due by February 5, 2024.
Duration:
Ten months, from early September to the following June, with the Court selecting about 15 participants globally.
Duties:
Fellows conduct research, draft memos, attend hearings, and complete tasks as assigned by their supervising judge.
Trust Fund:
Established to support candidates from developing countries, enhancing the programme's geographical and linguistic diversity.
Selection:
The ICJ seeks diverse nationalities and will finalize selections by April 2024.
