The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) offers a unique opportunity for citizens of developing countries, including Afghanistan, to pursue master's degrees in development-related fields at prestigious institutions worldwide. This program aims to empower students with advanced knowledge and skills that will contribute significantly to the development and progress of their country.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the JJ/WBGSP scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Citizens of a developing country, including Afghanistan.
  • Unconditional admission letter (except for financing/medical certificate) from a participating master's degree program. See the links below.
  • Minimum of three years of development-related experience post-bachelor's degree (including part-time work and specific internships)

Application Process

  • Apply for a master’s degree program at one of the JJ/WBGSP Participating Programs for 2024. Choose a program related to development. See the links below.
  • You must be accepted into one of the Participating Master’s Programs to be eligible for the JJ/WBGSP Scholarship. For 2024, there are 49 Participating Master’s Programs across 27 universities. Once admitted, you can apply for this scholarship before one of the following deadlines.

Application Deadlines

There are two application windows for the scholarship:
  • Window 1: January 15 to February 29, 2024
  • Window 2: March 25 to May 24, 2024

Notification and Follow-up

By the end of March 2024, successful applicants will be notified through email and an announcement on the World Bank's website. Unsuccessful applications will not receive individual notifications.

  • For any issues with recommendation requests, applicants should verify the recommender's email address and check for email filtering or security settings.
  • An English translation must accompany documents in languages other than English.
